KENYA TOURISM FEDERATION (KTF)
2ND STATUS UPDATE ON KENYA - 25TH JULY, 2022
The Kenya Tourism Federation continues to monitor the countdown to the General Elections and will keep internal and external stakeholders appraised of any developments in the country before, during and after the electoral process.
Elections Watch 2022:
Election campaigns across the country are in progress with only fourteen (14) days to go and it is instrumental to note that all candidates and the various authorities have been calling for peaceful campaigns and acceptance of the outcome. There is, at the moment, still no credible reasons for KTF to raise any concerns about the forthcoming process and all tourism circuits country-wide continue to report normal operations.
Overview on Tourism:
Kenya's tourism sector was, like most destinations worldwide, adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The destination is however showing very positive signs of recovery and tourist numbers are on the rise with domestic tourism having already surpassed 2019 levels. This positive trend is expected to continue well into 2022 with full recovery
projected by 2024.
Election Monitoring:
KTF will, as is customary during every Election period, deploy a network of Observers throughout the key tourist locations and access highways. The Operation is designed to ensure that in the unlikely event that disruptions occur in the areas under watch an early warning system is available to ensure that tourist itineraries are not disrupted.
In view of the above, KTF encourages all intending visitors to continue with their travel plans to visit the Magical Kenya. We are confident that the lessons learnt from past General Elections will serve the relevant authorities well' as they prepare to deliver a credible and peaceful general Election.
We however reiterate that visitors must ensure tho t they only make their travel arrangements through registered and licensed tour operators and preferably members of a registered Tourism Association. For any concerns that one may have, the Federation is available to assist you with verification.
