December, 2012

The Association held a media breakfast on 29th November 2012 at the Stanley Hotel to highlight the impact of sustainable development on the tourism industry and challenges that the industry was facing in implementing the provisions of EMCA, especially pertaining to affluent discharge.

Following the media breakfast we received coverage in various media, here is a link to a story by the standard on the same.

Due to our intense lobbying activities on NEMA regulations, the body consequently gazetted new regulations, contained in Legal Notice 85 of July 23rd 2012, in which Hotels have gotten a reprieve after NEMA rescinded a decision on levying a blanket charge for the effluent discharge licenses. In the new regulations payment will be based on the establishment’s bed capacity.

We urge members to obtain a copy of this legal notice from the Government Printers
