The Minister for Tourism has by Gazette Notice dated 9^th August 2012 gazetted 1^st September 2012 as the commencement date for the long awaited Tourism Act. The Act was signed into Law by the President in 2011 but required the line Minister to gazette a commencement date.

This development now paves way for the actualization of provisions of the Act and a lot of changes are expected in the sector. Key among them is the formation of several new bodies like The Tourism Regulatory Authority, and the Tourism Research Institute, which is expected to address the concern of accurate data in the Industry.
