MEETING WITH KRA – TIMS

We met with the Commissioner General of KRA and his team in order to review the implementation of the new TIMS system. The deadline for extension was extended to 30th September. Another extension was obtained making the new deadline stand at 30th November 2022.

MEETING WITH KENYA AIRWAYS

A team led by Jimmi Kariuki met with the MD of Kenya Airways in an effort to lobby support in increasing airline frequencies to Nairobi and Mombasa. Both sides gave the advantages and disadvantages of this initiative. Kenya Airways promised to give the industry  support  with  connections  through  Istanbul by  Turkish  Airlines  and  also explained the situation with KLM and other airlines. We agreed to have a stakeholder engagement in Mombasa and also visit the Transport Cabinet Secretary.

MEETING WITH NEW KTB CHAIR

We held a meeting with the new KTB Chair as well as the CEO to discuss future engagements with KTB. The meeting was a precursor to a wider stakeholder engagement which had been set for early September. This wider engagement was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances and will be held at a later date.

RONALD NGALA UTALII COLLEGE

We held a meeting with Betty Radier of KTB and Prof Musyoki (Utalii College). The government was keen on opening Ronald Ngala Utalii College by the end of July. In this regard, the planning team wanted like to have as many players as possible present for the event which was to be presided over by the President. They also wanted encourage young ladies and gents from the Coast region to join the college and were seeking scholarships for a few students to begin with. This was discussed with the Chairman and he suggested that we send out an appeal so that companies could come forward to provide scholarships. The matter was put on hold as the college was not ready in good time. We shall revisit this with the new regime.

MEETING WITH IMMIGRATION OFFICIALS

KTF Chairman, Fred Odek led a delegation of Association CEO’s to a meeting with the Director of Visa Services, Immigration. We discussed the issue of the e-Visa and the challenges that our customers are faced with, particularly from the US (in terms of payment), Germany and Italy (language), and a host of other issues. The officials agreed to immediately review the payment problem being experienced by US travelers and also look into the various issues that we presented.
