The Tourism Regulatory Authority is established under the Tourism Act 2011 with the mandate to regulate the tourism sector operations and ensure quality tourism products and services offered to tourists in the country. Regulation 5 of the Act provides for the establishment of a Standardization and Classification Committee to work under the Authority. To this end, the Association has been selected to be a member of the committee and will be represented by, Mr. Mike Macharia, KAHC CEO.
The main duties to be conducted by the Committee will be to undertake overall supervision and guidance of National Tourism Standardisation and Classification of all tourism activities and services, and oversee the development of standards for all tourism enterprises and activities among other roles.
The induction of the Committee was held in November 2014 at Diani Sea Resort and was officially launched by the PS Commerce and Tourism, Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed.
