ILO has been engaging with ILO constituents within the toursim sector in Kenya to support efforts to create resilience and growth in this vital sector. One element of this engagement has involved the implementation, in partnership with Kuoni, of a demonstration of ILO SCORE training in a small number of hotels/lodges in Mombasa and Amboseli.
We are pleased to say that this demonstration has progressed well, despite the period of insecurity that the sector has experienced this year, and the four participating hotels/lodges have now completed the training and the follow-up implementation involved in the SCORE methodology.
The four participating hotels and lodges have achieved some excellent results, including cost savings, energy use reduction, improved communication and increased staff morale, and a number of other practical impacts and innovations. The four participating member hotels are:-
1. Diani Sea Resort.
2. Diani Reef Beach Resort and Spa.
3. Msambweni Beach House.
4. Oltukai Lodge, Amboseli.
In this regard, Coast KAHC members were invited to hear from peers about the changes the hotels have achieved through SCORE Training and how the Kenyan hotel industry can become more competitive by continuously improving quality, efficiency and workplace conditions.
The event was held on Friday, 14 November 2014, at Diani Sea Resort, South Coast.
