Kenya Tourism Awards gala dinner is set for 23rd June 2011 at Carnivore grounds. The Kenya Tourism Awards have been organized by Kenya Tourism Federation and Kenya Tourist Board, and is the first ever national awards event for the local tourism industry.
The Awards Gala dinner provides an occasion for stakeholders from across the tourism sector to come together to celebrate the gains that the industry has made, especially in the last 2 years. The tourism sector has in this period demonstrated a lot of resilience and bounced back from the setbacks of 2008 - the post election violence in the country, and the global economic meltdown which slowed down the global tourism industry – and has achieved full recovery.
Tourism set a new peak year in 2010, both in total tourist arrivals and receipts. The sector is keen to sustain and grow this positive momentum; and affirming positive competition among local tourism businesses, through awards that recognize excellence in the field, is a key way of sustaining the gains made and inspiring further growth.
Kenya Tourism Awards also recognizes the important role played by the media in promoting the country as a choice tourism destination. The role of the media in promoting tourism is especially highlighted in the role that they played in restoring a positive image of the country as a travel destination, after the negative publicity that the country experienced following the post election violence of 2008.
The gala dinner is scheduled to start at 6.30 pm till 10.30pm. Tickets to the ceremony cost Kshs 3,000 per person, and will be available shortly at the awards secretariat hosted by Kenya Tourism Federation secretariat.
