KWALE COUNTY TOURISM STAKEHOLDERS MEETING AT THE BAOBAB BEACH RESORT & SPA

The membership in attendance raised the following issues:

  • Opening of Beach access roads
  • Protection of private property
  • Providing maximum access to the beach for recreational service
  • The right of walk along the beach
  • Right to access the beach though encroached by private developers which has rendered the existing beach access roads invalid
  • Modalities of opening up the beach access roads;

At the forum, it was agreed unanimously that the roads were to be opened to ease the beach menace, improve infrastructure, and make laws to regularize the beach, knowledge of entrepreneurship to be harmonized, Unlicensed and Illegal structures to be brought down, public toilets to be put in strategic areas, a Police Post to be erected along Beach Road.

Tourism faced the following challenges:

  • Dongo Kundu bypass has delayed
  • Insecurity issues
  • Delays at the Ferry up to 3 hours
  • Beach operators are a nuisance

The County Cabinet Secretary Tourism in the region, Hon. Adan Sheikh informed the participants that the county endeavors to support culture, sports, beautification of all access roads to the beach, improve lighting system, garbage collection, sewage system, water treatment system, construction of road reserves.
