ANTI TERRORISM AWARENESS TRAINING AT THE COAST
December, 2012

The Coast membership attended an Anti Terrorism Awareness training at the Coast held at Travelers Beach Resort on the 5th and 6th December organized by Kenya Tourism Federation.

The security training promotes terrorism awareness and counter-terrorism security actions by tourism operators, as well as equips participants with First Aid skills to enable them provide effective first response in case of incidents and injuries. The security training is conducted by officers from the Anti Terrorism Police unit, Tourist Police unit and Bomb Squad. Participants gain invaluable knowledge that goes a long way to enable them improve security for themselves, their stakeholders and the establishments where they operate.

Participants are taken through various topics, including identifying common indicators of potential terrorism threats and how to respond in case of a threat; unnoticed security lapses that may predispose them to attack; effective security systems to counter terrorism;

Additionally, participants are provided with the correct contacts by which to contact the authorities in case of an incident or threat; and participants and the authorities also agree on further areas of cooperation to improve the security for the industry.

To maximize impact, KTF has put plans in place to implement this initiative throughout the main tourism circuits; thus additional training is planned for South Coast, Lamu, Malindi, Nanyuki, Samburu, Western circuit, and additional training in Nairobi, to cater to the large demand in Nairobi.
